So I was relaxing in the mezzanine area at Denver airport last night when this woman started making repetitive laps up and down the escalator. I found it funny, so naturally I began filming after she had done 5-6 of them. Enjoy!

...do you usually film women you don't know?
![]() 05/27/2014 at 14:36 |

That is the face of a woman who has truly given up on life.

Nope, but there's a first time for everything. But due to her speed and video quality, it's not like you could make out her identity.

Well, that escalated quickly.

What? You don't ?

Oppo confession: I hate and am actually kinda scared of escalators...

I spent a 10 hour delay with a 3 year old and 1 year old up there on that beautifully deserted mezzanine.

Rather uplifting,....no?

If she's going for exercise, attempting them in the reverse would be ideal, and likely more entertaining for all parties.

I hear you. Going up is fine, its stepping on them at the top just before you go down and can't see the next step below and feel like your about to fall to the ground.

With the exception of the fact that I explored all three terminals (all levels) out of sheer curiosity / boredom. This seems far healthier than my end game when I was stuck in Denver not once, but twice on business earlier this month.
I ended up finding the best beer in the airport ( Root Down , Terminal C - prices are high, but their selection is choice and they have great food - plenty of vegan options as well), but not before I found the New Belgium restaurant in terminal B.
On my way back home, I ended up spending the night in Denver due to missed plane connections and I discovered that you can't get a beer before 7AM. So I waited for 7:00 AM and ordered a beer at 7:00 AM sharp...
For anyone who knows me, none of these occurrences would be surprising (exploring, finding beer, waiting for a beer after almost no sleep at silly hours in the AM).

Meh, it's got its ups and downs.

True. Looks like forced exercise.

She just wants to exercise before she sits for hrs on a plane. Nothing wrong with that. Better than sitting enjoying Ben & Jerrys before her flight like they do here in Atlanta.

When I work at DIA I always try to eat at Root Down. Their staff is great and love the food. I've had almost everything on the menu aside from soup/salads. Love that place.

I never said anything was wrong with it... But the escalator assistance in going up and down probably didn't amount to much of a workout. Now if she had done it backwards... Plus, the DEN terminal is like a mile long (estimating here), she could have just taken a long walk.

I eat mostly a plant based diet, but I have to tell you, the meat selections on their menu, and those ordered by the people around me at the bar, made me seriously question my food choices. Everything there looks delicious.

IWhat was wrong with normal stairs? Why must they move!?

The weirdest thing is I love the side of dressed arugula the most!

I'm happy that Root Down there isn't a secret. I seriously hope they get all of the business they can handle. It's worth going to the terminal just for them if you have enough time to justify the walk.

They changed the way I look at airport dining. I would love to see places like this pop up around the other airports. I almost want to fly there just to eat there!

That's the odd part to me. There's an airport with windows and airplanes you could walk through, why walk up and down escalators?
![]() 05/27/2014 at 15:16 |

I know. There's nothing wrong with normal stairs, nothing at all.

That has "Landed Tokyo direct, boarding Heathrow direct in 2 hours" written all over it. I've done the stir-crazy walk-the-airport thing, too, but I usually go for full-concourse length rather than some kind of stairstepper/hamster wheel thing. Also, excellent use of Grieg in there. Inspired me to go look it up to listen to while working. Thanks!

I've already recommended them to others who say that they are flying there. I imagine that the actual Root Down is a pretty awesome place to eat as well. I was happy I discovered them on the way to my destination so that I could grab breakfast there on my way back.

Haven't been to their city location. I also hear Linger is cool. It used to be Olingers mortuary. They kep the name and just killed the lights to the O and S.

Is that Dale's Pale Ale on tap I see? As much of a terrible place I've been told that airport is, I'd definitely go just for the beer selection.

she was probably high.....damn u denver!
![]() 05/27/2014 at 16:24 |

That is both Dale's AND G'Knight... They had a remarkable selection for a bar, let alone a bar at an airport.
![]() 05/27/2014 at 16:26 |

On one hand I want to ask for a zoomed-in version to read the taps, on the other hand it just makes me depressed at the crappy selections available at O'Hare.

That is a great area for kids. Spent a good deal of time in that airport when my kids were smaller, and the mezzanine is so nice and quiet. They can run around or rest, without people everywhere.

I hate you. I so want to book a flight to Denver just for the opportunity to eat and drink there now, it's tempting because I'm still job hunting and have lots of free time. Seriously, this is not helping.

With the exception of the prices (airport, what can you do?) I don't have a single negative thing to say about them. Also, it's awesome that every brew, even Coors, is local.
Sorry, I wish I could have worse news for you? May the beer forces of the universe conspire to bring you to a layover in Denver.

I regularly fly standby with my small son. Once we spent nine hours at IAH. Another time, it took us three days to catch a flight leaving MCO. Escalators are the only reason we stay sane.

Maybe she had a bad wheel. Escalators take pressure of the knee.
At least she wasn't shoving McDonald's down her throat or getting hammered at a bar like I might have done. Just saying.

This brings back many memories. It's been what feels like forever since I've flown home (really it's only been about eight months, I'm Denver native and now live in the -ugh- south east), but I've eaten there many times. My sister is one of those big "check-in at the airport 2-3 hours before your scheduled departure time" people, and despite A) my having worked for Delta for a number of years and knowing better, and B) my flights always leaving on off-peak hours, I was always more than happy to go in early and spend the last of my travel money there. The city restaurant puts the DIA location, as good as it is, to shame though.
